Hey everyone! I’m at a tough spot towards the end of the main story where a massive battle goes down. I’ve gathered as much help as I could, but I’m getting destroyed. I’m currently level 19 and chose archery as my main skill (thanks a lot, Skyrim!). I’ve tried this fight three times now, and every time about 20 enemies end up chasing me. I manage to kite them decently and quick save after taking down a few, but inevitably, a key character ends up getting killed while I’m trying to escape from all these attackers. How in the world am I supposed to keep this character alive while also dealing with 20 opponents?

This whole situation highlights the issues with Oblivion’s scaling system. It can really punish you for leveling up. By the time you hit level 20, every enemy evolves into the hardest version of themselves! You might have to cheese the game a bit with broken spells or enchantments to make it through this fight.
I feel your pain! I’m at level 25 and struggling to keep Martin alive during the same battle. I actually started a new character to try the main quest at a lower level. Sometimes it’s just easier that way!
If your Illusion skill is high enough, you could cast a 100% Chameleon spell on him. That way, he won’t get attacked while you focus on the bigger fights— I had to use this trick during the last quest!
Try using AoE Paralysis spells along with AoE arrows. It can help manage those pesky enemies and give Martin some breathing room.
Are you rushing into the Great Gate as soon as it opens? It’s key to wait until Martin is free from combat before going in. It seems to help keep him safe. But be careful—the gate is on a timer! If all else fails, consider temporarily dropping the difficulty to make it easier.
You might want to consider lowering the difficulty. Sometimes you just gotta do it to progress, especially in this game where the challenge can get ridiculous. If you don’t want to do that, maybe take a break to work on your gear and enchantments, then come back stronger!
Totally agree! If you stick with marksman, don’t forget to equip enchanted arrows—Arrows of Immolation are a game changer. If you need help with enchanting, just ask!
Exactly! By the time I faced these challenges at level 38, I had to essentially babysit Martin, healing him constantly until it was time to run for the objective.
