I’m trying to get Wine installed on my Chromebook, but it’s just not cooperating. I followed some Reddit advice that’s years old, and nothing’s working this time around. Any fresh ideas or specific Chromebook tips would be super helpful!

You might want to look into support that’s aimed specifically at Chromebooks. Even though ChromeOS is built on Linux, it’s really a custom version made by Google, so the usual Linux fixes might not work out. Plus, since Chromebooks don’t have the same type of GPU setup, if you do manage to get Wine running, you might find that the graphics side of things is pretty limited.
From what I remember, ChromeOS is based on a Debian-like system, so looking up Wine installation guides for Debian might do the trick. Also, check if your device supports proper video acceleration and whether it’s running on an x86 or ARM architecture, as that could be a game changer. There’s some debate about it being Gentoo-based too, but it’s likely more Debian behind the scenes.
Exactly, hardware details like that can really change the setup process. Worth double-checking before you dive in too deep!
That makes sense – I’ll definitely try and hunt down some Chromebook-specific help. Thanks for the heads-up!
