Struggling to Connect My Phone to a Monitor: Any Tips?

-

I recently got a new monitor and tried to connect it to my phone using a USB-C adapter, but no luck so far. Does anyone have any idea why it’s not working or how I might fix it? I’d really appreciate some help on this.

First, you should check if your phone is capable of wired output. Not all phones support this function; they need to have USB-C Gen 3 or higher for it to work. Also, ensure your phone has some kind of desktop mode like Samsung’s DeX or certain Motorola and Huawei models support.

Phones need to support Display Port Alt Mode for video output. Models such as Samsung S-series (from S8 onward), some Motorola Edge phones, and a few others have this feature. If your phone doesn’t support video output, you can consider using an external USB video card that is compatible with Android. It won’t perform like native output but could still get the job done.

It’s surprising to hear you thought it’d be plug-and-play. Android might not have built-in capability to cast its screen to a monitor natively without the right hardware. Even with some apps or alternative methods, it might be tricky. Hopefully, you’ve done some Googling to get the lay of the land.
