Hey everyone! I’ve been playing League of Legends for over 6 years, racking up more than 3000 hours across different accounts, mainly in the Top lane. Recently, I’ve realized that my skill hasn’t really improved in the last 3 years, and I’m stuck at Silver 4, having barely reached it a couple of times before slipping back to Bronze 1. I don’t think I’m terrible, but sometimes I feel like my decisions in-game don’t make sense and I can’t pinpoint why.
To clarify my situation, I’ll share three common scenarios that happen in my ranked matches:
1. **Scenario 1**: I start strong and push the enemy to their tower, effectively poking them. Then, out of nowhere, they turn it around and kill me, causing a snowball effect that leads to our loss, even when I seem to have the upper hand.
2. **Scenario 2**: The enemy crushes me, completely dominating our lane. I find myself getting picked off without having a chance to retaliate, leading to another loss.
3. **Scenario 3**: I have a great start, like going 4/0 within 8 minutes, yet somehow, even while being fed, I still struggle to secure kills and often end up dying as the game progresses.
There are other factors too, like my teammates sometimes outperforming or enemies getting fed, but I often feel my wins are due to enemy mistakes rather than my skill. I see other players masterfully using champions and I just can’t replicate their success, like when I try to play Riven and can’t seem to close the gap on enemies while they easily take me down.
I want to understand what I’m missing and how I can improve my gameplay, take control of my lanes, and climb in rank. Please share your insights on where I might be going wrong! I’d appreciate clear advice rather than just being told I’m bad. If you need specific details like my main champions (Morde, Garen, WW), just let me know!
Thanks a lot!

I noticed that while you’re stuck in Silver, your skills in other games like CS2 are improving. That suggests you might have the raw mechanics but need to refine your decision-making in League. Focus more on farming and positioning rather than just engaging. The key is not to force plays unless the situation is right; sometimes patience is the best strategy. And remember, it’s okay to play safe until you understand your champion and matchups better!
Absolutely! Learning matchups can change how you approach fights. If you know the enemy champion’s strengths and weaknesses, that will help you make smarter plays.
It sounds like you really need to focus on your vision control. Dying a lot often hints you might not be aware of the map or your enemies’ locations. Try to prioritize purchasing control wards and make it a habit to ward during your games. Also, work on your positioning in fights so you’re not caught off guard. It might feel like extra work, but it’s crucial for climbing ranks. Try to analyze your own replays to spot what’s going wrong and make adjustments. Good luck!
Thanks for the tips! I definitely see how my vision could use improvement. I appreciate the suggestion to check my replays; I’ll start doing that!
Also, remember to communicate with your team. If you’re winning your lane, ping to group for objectives instead of trying to solo carry. It really helps!
Great advice, thanks! I’ll pay more attention to matchups and try to stay safer.
