I started playing Overwatch last season and main Kiriko. I did my placements and got placed at Bronze 1, but since then my rank has been dropping slowly. Now I’m doing placements again and my previous rank is heavily influencing where I get placed. I honestly just want to be Silver 5 because Bronze is really frustrating—long queue times, teammates leaving constantly, sometimes I’m left with just one other person on my team. It feels unfair that these kinds of games are deciding my rank. Even if I play well individually, I don’t think I’ll escape Bronze. I’m really sick of it and would appreciate any advice on how to get to Silver.

Just to add, Bronze 1 and Silver 5 aren’t that different skill-wise. You’ll still be playing pretty much the same player pool. The key mindset shift is to play not just to win but to improve. Blaming teammates or leavers won’t help your climb. Everyone makes mistakes, even at higher ranks. The only thing you can truly control is your own play quality. So, focus on that, and you’ll eventually move up.
If you want specific feedback, try sharing your replay codes with players who can review your gameplay. Low elo is rough, especially solo queue, and sometimes you need friends or a group for coordinated games to climb properly. But mostly improving your map awareness, positioning, and cooldown management can make a huge difference. Also remember servers haven’t been great lately, so queue times and leavers might be more frequent than usual.
A lot of people complain about leavers and it’s totally annoying, but blaming them for your rank won’t get you far. The matchmaking tries to balance teams but it’s not perfect. I report anyone who leaves instantly, but in the end, if you’re not climbing, it’s usually because your overall gameplay needs work. Keep practicing, watch replays, and whenever you can, share them with others who can give you constructive advice.
Honestly, climbing in Overwatch is tough especially in lower ranks like Bronze and Silver, but it’s definitely possible. The best thing you can do is focus on improving your own gameplay instead of worrying about teammates leaving or messing up. Try to identify one thing at a time—like your Kiriko kunai accuracy, ability timing, or ultimate usage—and work on that consistently. Even if games seem stacked against you, better personal performance will help you climb over time. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Yeah, that makes sense. It just feels crazy because when I first played a few ranked games as D.Va, I got into high Silver relatively quick. So I was expecting similar when I switch to Kiriko, but it doesn’t feel that way. I think I just have to keep grinding and improving.
