I’ve got a refurbished 1TB OLED Steam Deck from the Steam store, and I’m really enjoying it, but I’ve run into a frustrating problem. While I’m grinding through missions, my Steam Deck randomly freezes. I try holding the Steam and circle buttons, but that doesn’t help; it just stops the music and the fan. I end up having to restart the whole device. Has anyone else had this issue? Could it be related to a Decky plugin? It’s so annoying, especially when I’m in the middle of a game like Dave the Diver and I have to start all over.

This sounds like a significant issue. It might be a hardware problem, but the best first step is to reimage your Steam Deck. Valve usually recommends this when you send it in for repairs anyway. Just reimage it without any extra software and see if the freezing continues. If it runs fine, gradually start adding your non-standard stuff back in and see what triggers the problem. If the freezing keeps happening even after a clean reimage, it’s time to contact Valve for an RMA.
I’ve only had freezes when I’ve messed around with overclocking or undervolting settings. If you haven’t touched those, it could definitely be something else, like the Decky plugin you mentioned. I played Sekiro for a while without any issues, but once I added Decky and some plugins, I faced my first freeze while playing Bully.
Yeah, I haven’t changed any of those settings either. I’m starting to think it might be related to the Decky plugin.
Thanks for the reply! I found out how to reimage my Steam Deck, but I have a USB stick, and I don’t have the dock to plug it in. Is there a way to do this without the dock?
