I recently got a Nintendo Switch and have been enjoying tons of great games like Hollow Knight, Persona 5 Royal, and Monster Hunter Rise. Funny enough, though, I still haven’t actually played Breath of the Wild. I’ve launched it, stared at the start screen, but then backed out. It feels like such a special game that I don’t want to rush into it. With the new Switch 2 and its upgraded, smoother version of Breath of the Wild coming out soon, I’m wondering if I should just wait and play the enhanced edition instead. On the flip side, I feel like I might be missing out on the original experience and everyone else’s earlier hype. So what do you think? Should I dive in now or hold off for the upgrade? Any advice or gentle guilt trips welcome!

Since you’re planning on getting a Switch 2 anyway, I’d definitely wait for it. Playing such an iconic game with crisper visuals and smoother gameplay sounds like the way to go. Plus, you’ll be ready to jump into Teardown of the Kingdom or whatever comes next with that setup.
If you already own the original Breath of the Wild, I’d say just wait for the Switch 2 upgrade. It’ll only cost you around $10 to unlock the enhanced version, which runs at way smoother 60 FPS and probably has better visuals. Since you’ve been holding off, waiting for the much better experience might make the game even more special when you finally play it.
Good point about the upgrade price! I hadn’t realized it was that affordable.
You do have a chance to start now and see what you think before the new version comes out. Sometimes getting a feel for the game makes you appreciate the upgrades even more down the road. Also, if you decide the game isn’t your cup of tea, at least you tried it! But if you’re set on fully experiencing the game in its best form, waiting isn’t a bad call either.
Honestly, if you can wait a few more months, I’d hold off and enjoy it on the Switch 2. The performance improvements like higher frame rates and better resolution will really make the adventure feel more immersive than the original Switch version can offer.
Just jump in and play on your current Switch if you feel like it. Otherwise, if waiting is easy for you, then hold out for the upgrade so you get the polished experience. Just remember, if you never start it now, playing on the Switch 2 won’t happen either. Either way, the game’s magic is still there, no matter which version you choose.
That’s reassuring! I’m excited to play it properly with all those enhancements.
