I’m caught in a bit of a dilemma between the Asus Strix Scar 18 models—the 2025 version with the RTX 5080, which is set to release at the end of March, and the 2024 model with the RTX 4090, which I can buy now as an open-box unit in fantastic condition. The 2025 model costs $3399, while the 2024 model is available for $3250. I’m really leaning towards the 2025 since I’ve heard it matches the 4090’s raw performance but offers better multi-frame generation, plus I prefer its design and improved cooling. However, I’m tempted by the savings on the 2024 model, especially since money isn’t a huge issue for me—I’m just unsure if waiting is worth it. What do you think? Should I wait for the new model or go for the 2024 version now? Also, I know the 2025 will have a 5090 option, but I’m not keen on the extra $1200 for a minor performance upgrade.

If budgeting isn’t much of a concern, you could grab the 2024 model now and then sell it when the 2025 comes out—assuming you won’t mind the short-term use. Just have to consider how soon you need a laptop. A month wait for the new model isn’t too long, especially since reviews for the 2025 edition aren’t out yet, so we can’t really judge its cooling performance or other features. Plus, multi-frame generation has its downsides, especially with artifacts in low FPS settings. That said, the 2024 model is a powerhouse itself!
I hear you, but selling a used laptop can be tricky, especially if you’re heading abroad soon. I checked the market and found some 2024 models going for roughly $3000, but they’re almost a year old already. Plus, personally, I think multi-frame generation isn’t as bad as some say, and it has a chance to improve with driver updates.
