I’m putting together a gaming PC on a budget and can’t decide between the 9800X3D or the 7800X3D CPUs. I was planning to pair the 9800X3D with a 4070 Super, but I’m worried about potential bottlenecking. The 9800X3D would cost me an additional 160€, so I’m considering if that investment is truly necessary. Alternatively, I could go for the 7800X3D and invest the savings into upgrading to a 4070 Ti Super GPU. My primary focus is competitive gaming at 1080p on a 380Hz monitor. What would you recommend?

While upgrading to a 9800X3D is not a must, it might future-proof your setup more effectively. As time progresses, newer games and software might demand more from CPUs, so having a higher-tier one can be beneficial. However, if immediate performance with your 1080p gaming is the goal, investing in a stronger GPU might yield better results overall.
I’d suggest going with the better GPU if gaming is your main priority. I have a Ryzen 5 5600X with an RTX 4080 and even in CPU-intensive games like Counter-Strike, the CPU rarely hits 80% usage. Investing in a more expensive CPU might not be worth it if it’s just for gaming. Your money could be better spent on a stronger GPU.
Would I notice a bigger difference if I go for the 7800X3D paired with a 4070 Ti Super instead of the 9800X3D and 4070 Super combination?
