I’ve been using my PS4 Pro since 2020, just after the PS5 came out. I bought my PS4 at the start of the pandemic, so my budget was tight, and my parents were against getting me a PS5. Now, I’m really tempted to get one mainly for Spider-Man 2. However, I’ve heard we might be nearing the end of the PS5’s lifecycle. Should I hold off and wait for the potential PS6, or is getting a PS5 now a good idea?

The PS5 has a ton of life left in it, especially since you’re still using a PS4. Firstly, consider what kind of TV you’re gaming on—if it’s a quality 4K setup, you’ll really notice the difference with upgrades like ray tracing and haptic feedback on the PS5!
It really comes down to how much you play. If you’re gaming regularly, then upgrading makes sense. You might find some good deals on a used console too. Just make sure to get one with a disc drive so you can enjoy free upgrades for your PS4 games!
If you have a big backlog of games on the PS4, it might be better to wait. But if you’re itching for new games that won’t be available on the PS4 for long, then upgrading is worth it. Just keep in mind that the PS5 isn’t dead yet; it’s got years of support coming!
Honestly, the PS6 isn’t expected until late 2027, so if you’re eager for a new console, I’d say go for the PS5! It’s great for exclusives and I love my Pro. If you’re not one to buy launch systems, waiting might make sense, but if you want to enjoy gaming now, the PS5 is the way to go.
Spider-Man 2 is an amazing game, but don’t rush into getting a console just for one title. If you’re excited about the overall library and features of the PS5, then it’s worth it. Just make sure you’re getting a good deal—there are definitely sales out there!
I’ve been playing my PS4 more lately, but I’m a dedicated gamer too. I’m thinking about getting a brand new one, not a used console.
