I’m looking to upgrade my gaming setup. I currently have a Ryzen 7 5800X and just got a 5070 Ti after using a 1660 Ti Super at 1080p. I’m trying to decide if I should make the jump to 4K gaming or if sticking with 2K is a smarter choice. I’ve been getting around 70 to 90 FPS at 1080p. My concern is whether moving to 4K would lead to lower frame rates, especially as I hear the 5070 Ti is decent for 4K, but I’m worried that it might not deliver solid performances all the time. I also don’t want to miss out on 4K if I settle for 2K and later regret it. On top of that, I’m a bit concerned about using DLSS to maintain good FPS at 4K, fearing it might cause lag or performance issues.

Don’t forget, it’s totally fine to play at 1080p or 1440p even if you have a 4K monitor. For media consumption and general use, a 4K monitor is great overall. The 5070 Ti can handle 4K with DLSS, but for native 4K gaming, it might struggle with heavy graphics settings. If you go for 2K, you’ll probably find better refresh rates and sizes for the same price.
I agree, 4K can be really demanding! It depends heavily on the games you play. Newer AAA titles are definitely tougher on hardware; you’ll likely need to use DLSS a lot. Personally, I think 1440p is a sweet spot between performance and visual quality. If you can, check out a store to see both resolutions in action.
I vote for ultrawide 1440p! You get a wider field of view and a good performance boost without sacrificing too much quality.
Honestly, you probably don’t need 4K for your build. It’s easy to get caught up in the hype, but 2K looks great and you’ll keep better performance that way. Seriously, don’t feel pressured to go 4K just because it’s popular.
Yeah, 1440p is definitely a solid choice! It balances quality and performance nicely.
