I currently play Dota on a 31-inch Full HD monitor and get about 90 FPS on ultra settings. I’m considering two upgrade options: either boost my FPS to around 140-160 or get a better monitor like a Quad HD or an ultrawide. I also play some FPS games like Battlefield and Warzone, plus indie titles. What would be the best choice to improve my overall gaming setup for Dota and similar games?

Dota’s engine is pretty lightweight, so it can run well on modest setups. Any tweak that bumps FPS will help, but upgrading to a high refresh rate monitor isn’t strictly necessary unless you want a bigger immersive view with ultrawide. Given your gaming mix, a solid CPU upgrade plus maybe a mid-tier GPU should be balanced enough.
If you want a smoother Dota experience, prioritizing a CPU upgrade can be really impactful. Dota leans heavily on CPU performance, so even a high-end GPU won’t always help much. Going for a fast, recent-gen processor like an i9 with multiple cores can push your FPS up dramatically.
Honestly, your current 1080p monitor is still solid, especially if you boost your FPS. Increasing your FPS to 140-160 will feel smoother in-game and will probably be more noticeable than just moving to a higher resolution or ultrawide screen, assuming your monitor can display those higher frame rates.
That makes sense! So focusing on FPS first might give me the most bang for my buck before investing in a new monitor.
