I currently have an RTX 4070 TI ASUS TUF that I bought for about $1100, but I can sell it now for approximately $800. I’m contemplating moving to the RTX 5080, which goes for around $1400, yet it seems comparable in performance to the RTX 4080 Super, available second-hand but unused for $1200. I’ve got $1000 set aside purely for fun stuff. Should I stick with my current setup or go for either of these upgrades?

It really hinges on whether your games are struggling. If your current setup still runs most of them fine, especially above 60fps, you might not need to upgrade. But if you’re getting frequent low fps at high settings with ray-tracing, it’s worth thinking about an upgrade. I’d suggest maybe leaning towards the RTX 4080 Super if you can grab it unused for $1200 – it could be the sweet spot considering your budget.
Before taking the plunge, consider if it’s truly worth upgrading right now. If the main frustration is those dips during ray-tracing scenes, the extra power of an RTX 5080 might justify the additional cost despite the $600 stretch. If not, maybe keep your 4070 TI a bit longer and wait for even newer models that offer a more significant performance jump.
Since you’ve already got an i5-13600KF, which pairs decently with high-end GPUs, getting a better card could boost performance, especially if ray-tracing is your thing. If you’re budget-conscious, the RTX 4080 Super at $1200 looks like a good balance between price and performance. Though, that 5080 might give you more headroom for the future if you’re willing to spend more.
