Should I upgrade my gaming laptop, or can I fix my current one?

-

Hey, folks! I’m facing some issues with my current gaming laptop and could use your advice. I have an ACER Nitro V from 2019 with an i5-8300h CPU, a GTX 1050ti GPU, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. The battery won’t charge, and while gaming, like playing Fortnite in 1080p, I’m stuck at 30fps on low settings. Rocket League also gives me trouble with packet loss and latency, which might be due to the older WiFi chip.

I’m thinking about upgrading to an Asus G14 with a 4060 for around $1k USD. Would you guys stick with fixing the old one or go for the upgrade? If there’s a better option, I’d love to hear it! Thanks!

Honestly, it seems like it’s time to move on from that laptop. The Acer’s had a solid run but considering the issues you’re dealing with, especially low FPS and battery issues, it’s not worth investing more into fixing it. You’re bound to get a noticeable upgrade no matter what new model you choose. With your budget, the Asus G14 with a 4060 is a fantastic choice.

If you’re gaming with a GTX 1050ti nowadays, you’re missing out on smoother performance that new hardware, like the 4060, can give you. If you can swing it, it’s worth upgrading. You’ll notice a huge difference in how games run.

You could swap out the battery for about $25, but that won’t fix the gaming performance struggles with newer titles. It’s wise to keep the old laptop for everyday tasks after a battery replacement, but for gaming, definitely invest in a new one. The Asus G14 is a solid pick for staying under $1k. It’ll be able to handle anything you throw at it gaming-wise. Go for it!
