I’m currently using an i5 12500 alongside an RTX 2080 Ti and DDR5 CL36 6000 RAM. I’ve got a 5070 Ti on the way, and I’m considering whether upgrading to an i5 14600K for $189 is worth it. Does anyone think the performance boost in gaming at 1440p with the 5070 Ti is significant enough to justify the upgrade? I’ve checked out some comparisons, but I’m torn on what to do.

I think switching to the i5 14600K is worth it, especially if you keep your BIOS updated to avoid any CPU issues. My experience with a similar setup and had occasional bottlenecks with my 12700KF while gaming, so I can see that a 12500 could hold you back more than you’d like with a powerful GPU like the 5070 Ti.
Definitely a good point about the bottlenecks! It’s key to ensure you’re getting the most out of that new graphics card.
Upgrading to an i5 14600K could be a solid choice, especially since you’re already in the Intel ecosystem. However, if you can swing it, consider getting an i7 instead for a noticeable gaming boost. Currently, AMD CPUs are also top-notch for gaming, but I get that you’ve already built around the Intel platform with your 12500. Just keep that in mind for future upgrades!
True, but your platform does allow for an easier upgrade to an i7 after if you decide to go AMD later on. Just keep an eye out for their next-gen offerings!
It sounds smart to stick with Intel for now, but definitely think about future-proofing with AMD if you plan to upgrade your CPU again!
Glad to hear your motherboard has the latest BIOS! That’s one worry off your plate. If you already have a 14600K in your home server, maybe you can test it out sometime without taking the server offline.
