Hey everyone! A few months back, I made the jump from Windows to Fedora for work, and most games have been fine until I hit a snag with Monster Hunter a couple of weeks ago. I’m currently using an RTX 4080 Super, but I’m facing some serious graphics issues in that game. A friend of mine offered to buy my 4080 for around the same price as an AMD Radeon 9070 XT. Do you think switching is a good idea, and will it improve my gaming experience on Linux?

Before you make that switch, I’d suggest trying to fix the issues you’re having with your RTX 4080 Super. If Monster Hunter is your only problem, check out ProtonDB for user reports on that game. Also, the 9070 XT is still pretty new, so you won’t truly know how it stacks up until more issues are reported. It might be safer to stick with Nvidia for now.
As someone who owns a 9070 XT, I gotta say that Linux support isn’t quite there yet. Even with the latest versions of Mesa and the Linux kernel, I’ve experienced total display freezes when trying to game for more than a few minutes. If you’re serious about gaming, you might want to reconsider that swap for now.
If the 9070 XT gets proper support, it may be a better option in the long run. But, by the time that happens, the issues with your 4080 Super are likely to be resolved. In my opinion, keeping the 4080 for now seems like the smarter move.
