I’ve just ordered a 7900 XTX for €899 and I’m torn about whether to keep it or return it for a 4070 Ti Super. I’m building a new PC featuring a 9800x3d mainly to enjoy VR with my Quest 3. I was drawn to the 7900 XTX because it boasts 24GB of VRAM and raw performance for VR gaming. However, with the recent advancements in DLSS 4, I’m wondering if the Nvidia card might offer a better overall experience, especially for ray tracing in games like Cyberpunk. I know that people often say Nvidia is better for ray tracing while AMD excels in raw performance, but I’m confused about how this will play out in my mixed use case of VR applications, ray traced games, and non-ray traced titles. I’m skeptical about future GPU options, so it’s a tough call!

If ray tracing is high on your priority list, you might want to consider returning the 7900 XTX. But honestly, €899 is a strong price for it, and sticking with the XTX could save you money compared to the 4070 Ti. Also, the extra VRAM on the AMD card could be beneficial, especially for VR.
I’m not super keen on ray tracing either, but for VR, performance can vary a lot. Just keep in mind that while AMD is strong in raw performance, Nvidia’s DLSS might give a smoother VR experience.
