I’ve been using a 6900 XT, but I’m pretty disappointed with its performance, especially when it comes to ray tracing. To really enjoy it, I often need to lower the resolution to 1440p and tweak several settings down. I’m wondering if upgrading to the 9070 XT would provide a noticeable improvement in 4K ray tracing performance. I initially wanted to get the XFX Mag Lev 7900 XTX, but they’re hard to find without outrageous markups—sometimes over 50%!

Honestly, the 6900 XT was never designed to handle 4K ray tracing on high settings. The 9070 XT isn’t much better; only the top-tier cards like the 4090 and 5090 can do true 4K gaming with decent framerates. It’s a tough market right now if you’re looking for high performance at 4K with all the fancy graphics.
I agree, my 1440p setup works flawlessly without AA. True 4K gaming really pushes the limits and it’s pricey.
If you’re set on ray tracing at 4K, honestly consider something like the 5070 Ti or maybe even the 5080. Just be prepared that the 5080 is priced over $1300 right now.
Ugh, that’s wild! I can’t believe how expensive these cards have become.
Yes, upgrading to the 9070 XT could be beneficial. It has some significant improvements in ray tracing and AI capabilities compared to the 6900 XT, plus it matches the performance of the 7900 XT, just with slightly lower VRAM. It might be worth checking out!
Thanks for the insight! I was hesitant since I heard AMD isn’t releasing much in terms of high-end cards this generation. If it’s just a 10% FPS boost, I might stick with a 9070 XT.
Yeah, I feel you! I’d rather not spend over $1500 on a GPU, either. Plus, the heating would give me a mini heart attack!
