I’m an experienced raider from Final Fantasy looking to dive into some PvE content with challenging mechanics. I’m trying to decide whether to start with Secrets of the Obscure (SotO) or Journey to the West (JW) as my first expansion since they both have Legendary Mode group content. What do you think?

If you want a solid start, I would actually recommend grabbing the Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire bundle instead. Those expansions give you access to crucial raid content and mounts that can really enhance your PvE experience. Plus, you’ll unlock about 66% of elite specs, which are important for maximizing your character builds.
Honestly, you won’t be able to access much without all the expansions, finished storylines, and tons of gameplay hours. GW2 isn’t really made for hardcore raid seekers. The instanced content is just a small part of the game and varies in difficulty.
While SotO and JW have great raids, starting with Heart of Thorns or End of Dragons might be wiser to unlock more elite specs. You’ll have a better foundation for tackling harder content.
You don’t need to complete the stories of any expansions to jump into raids and strikes. As long as you own them, just find a group in the right area—Wizard’s Tower for SotO strikes and Lion’s Arch Aerodrome for JW raids. I suggest clearing normal mode raids first to get a hang of the mechanics; they can be quite different from what you’re used to in FFXIV.
Just a heads up, thinking you can hop into legendary content as a new player might be a bit ambitious. You generally need all expansions and a lot of experience before tackling that.
