Hey everyone! I’m looking for some advice. I recently got a Steam Deck and have been loving the experience, especially since I’ve been using it with my PlayStation controller while it’s docked to my monitor. I just finished Red Dead Redemption 2, which I played after a long break from gaming, and now I want to dive into another nostalgic game.
I’ve been considering downloading Skyrim, but then I heard the remastered version of Oblivion just came out. I’ve seen some gameplay footage, and while it looks appealing, I’ve noticed that the performance can drop in open-world settings. I’m wondering if it’s worth purchasing the remaster and waiting for possible bug fixes, or if I should just stick with the reliable Skyrim, knowing I might face some disappointments with the new release. What do you guys think?

From what I’ve heard, the remastered version of Oblivion doesn’t run well on the Steam Deck. It might be better to hold off on buying it until there are some updates that fix the issues. Skyrim, on the other hand, runs great on the Deck!
I actually love the Oblivion remaster! I’ve had a smooth experience on my Steam Deck, and I don’t mind the 30fps or some quirks the game has. I think it’s well worth the $60. But for a casual gamer who wants a solid experience, I’d recommend Skyrim since it runs better and won’t overheat your system. Both games are fun but Oblivion has a special place for me!
Thanks for this! That’s exactly the perspective I was looking for from someone who has played it. I’m okay with some quirks, but I just wanted to make sure it won’t crash on me! I think I’ll grab the remaster, and maybe get the old one too on the side.
