I just noticed that Dark Ages has been released, but I haven’t played any of the Doom games yet. I’ve heard that Dark Ages serves as a prequel. Is it okay to dive into Dark Ages first, or should I play Doom Eternal beforehand?

Honestly, the plot hasn’t been a big deal in Doom games. Just jump into whichever one looks fun. Dark Ages is before Eternal, but it’s still Doom, so just enjoy it!
Doom is all about the gameplay! You can start with Dark Ages or Eternal—it won’t ruin your experience either way. Just keep in mind that if you play Eternal first, you might miss out on some new features introduced in Dark Ages.
If you’re worried about story continuity, it’s probably better to start with Eternal just to get the controls down. But honestly, Doom is Doom; you can play them in any order and still have a blast!
You can totally start with Dark Ages! The storyline doesn’t heavily rely on prior knowledge from the other games, so you’re good to go.
I’d say play Eternal last—the gameplay is a bit different compared to 2016 and Dark Ages. You might appreciate the evolution more if you experience the newer mechanics first.
