I really enjoy Astarion for his witty dialogue and overall charm. I haven’t played Baldur’s Gate 3 since the last big updates, and I want to explore Astarion’s perspective, but I’ve mainly played as my custom Tav and Durge before. I love Durge, but I’m curious about Astarion’s story and whether it’s worth playing as him right now, especially with the new evil endings out. What do you think? Is playing Astarion a good idea, or should I save it for later?

If you’re into Astarion, I say go for it! You can keep your vampirism hidden until Act 1 is over, and the choices you get to make really add depth to his story. It really feels like you’re living it out from his point of view, and that can be super rewarding, especially if you love role-playing.
Astarion’s story really hooked me during my first playthrough. Plus, you can take risks without worrying about character approval in Act 1! It’s totally worth a shot if you love his character.
Honestly, I tried playing as Astarion and found it a bit underwhelming. It felt more like I was just controlling him rather than really experiencing his story. Plus, a lot of his dialogue gets replaced by the generic Tav lines, which totally takes away the charm! Some people enjoy it, but it wasn’t for me.
Definitely! I’ve done a couple of runs as Astarion. Even though you miss out on his voice acting, the roleplay feels like a fresh take on the story. You’ll discover character traits and backstory bits that make the game feel unique after you’ve played Tav or Durge a bunch. Plus, being able to make choices as him can lead to hilarious or chaotic outcomes!
You hit the nail on the head! I remember when I first played, I was totally hooked on Astarion’s storyline. He just has a way of captivating you!
Playing as origin characters like Astarion can be kinda bland since you miss a lot of the fun dialogue. You get a few minor cutscenes, but it really robs you of the witty banter he usually has! I think you might enjoy sticking with Durge for now unless you’re really curious about his unique endings.
I’ve heard that you can unlock special endings with Astarion, though. I’m torn!
I think it depends on your playstyle. If you’re looking to have a more immersive experience with his character, playing Astarion could be fun! But just know that it cuts back on the richness of dialogue you’d get when you’re not him. It’s like choosing to roleplay vs a typical run—some love it, some don’t.
Got it, thanks! Maybe I’ll just watch some playthroughs to catch his scenes instead.
