Hey everyone! I recently bought an RTX 5080 ZOTAC Solid OC white edition for $2130, which is basically the same as the $5090 MSRP. I’ve fully upgraded my PC with new parts like a 9800x3d, x870e motherboard, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1000W PSU. Now I’m thinking about whether I should refund this 5080 and just use my 3090 ti for a while until the prices for the 5090 drop to around $2000-$2500, instead of the crazy prices of over $4000 right now.
Although the 5080 is a solid card, I’m a bit disappointed since its performance is about 12% less than the 4090, and it only has 16GB of VRAM compared to the 20GB or 24GB offered by the 4090. The 4090 has been on the market for 3 years now, and I’m wondering how long it will remain relevant. I usually like to get the best specs available and keep my hardware for at least 5 years, like I did with my i7-8700k and 1080 ti. What do you think I should do?

Dude, it sounds like you’re in a tough spot! If you’re reluctant about the refund, remember, prices for these cards are unpredictable right now. But yeah, $3k for a 5090 isn’t bad compared to what I’m seeing. Just keep in mind, the longer you wait, the more your options might shrink.
Honestly, that’s a hefty price for the 5080! Are you sure about keeping it? Price to performance might not be the best deal right now, especially with the 4090 being slightly better for not that much more cash. Just something to think about before making that refund call.
Yeah, I agree with you. Keeping the 5080 might be your safest bet for now. At least you have something to game on while you wait for better prices. Plus, who knows? Perhaps the next generation will be incredible and worth waiting for!
I doubt those 5090 prices are coming down anytime soon. With how the market is and ongoing tariff issues, you might find it harder to get a good deal later. A lot of folks are predicting prices could actually go higher. If it were me, I’d think about holding onto the 5080 instead of risking paying more later.
