Hey everyone, I’ve recently been experimenting with hyperthreading on my Xeon E5 2697 v4 (which has 18 cores and 36 threads). I noticed that when it’s disabled, my frame rates in games really improve—like in Elden Ring, I jumped from around 20-30 FPS to about 55 FPS. In CS2, with hyperthreading enabled, my FPS drops to around 80 on very high settings, but when it’s off, it mostly hovers around 95 FPS. So, I’m wondering if I should continue keeping hyperthreading disabled or enable it instead?

Hyperthreading can impact single-thread performance a bit. But considering you’re using a powerful CPU like the Xeon, it might not be optimized for single-thread tasks anyway. It could be worth leaving it on for multitasking, but if your main goal is FPS, disabling it seems to be benefiting you more.
It really depends on the specific game you’re playing. For example, Civ VI can benefit from hyperthreading, while others may not show much difference. I’d recommend doing some research on how each game you play performs with hyperthreading on or off, and adjust accordingly for the best experience.
If you’re looking for better FPS, it sounds like you already have your answer! Keep it disabled since you’re getting a nice bump in your frame rates.
So, should I really just leave it off then?
