I’ve recently made the switch from PC gaming to PS5, and I’m loving the console experience, especially with my new PS5 Pro. However, I have a lot of digital games from my PC days and previously from PSN. Now that I’ve got a disc drive, I’m debating whether it’s worth it to invest in physical games, given the industry’s clear push towards digital-only. I love having a physical collection, especially since I started collecting 4K Blu-rays. Plus, it feels good to “own” something I can sell or lend out. But with game patches and updates constantly changing, I’m also worried about future compatibility, especially when the next PlayStation rolls around. Is it a good move to buy physical games, or am I better off sticking to digital?

Honestly, I think you’re onto something by considering physical games. They’re often cheaper than digital, especially used. Plus, you avoid the risk of losing access if the digital store decides to remove a game.
Yeah, it’s definitely the last generation where physical copies might still be relevant. While there’s always a chance they scale back on discs, there’s still a market now. Collecting games can be really rewarding, especially if you pick up titles from previous generations that might gain value.
I wouldn’t be so sure it’s the end of physical. They might evolve but I doubt Sony will entirely abandon it.
Absolutely! One of the big perks of physical copies is that you can resell them if you decide you don’t want to keep a game. Many folks have done this and essentially played games for free by trading them in or selling them after finishing. Even if resale prices aren’t super high, it still gives you a way to recoup some costs.
True, but you’ll often get way less than you paid for the game. It’s hit or miss when selling back.
In my opinion, the choice really boils down to personal preference. If you enjoy displaying your collection or lending games to friends, physical is the way to go. However, if you like convenience and buying games on sale, digital might be better for you. Assess what matters most to you!
For sure! I also think if you prefer quick access and don’t mind not having a physical copy, digital is super convenient.
Definitely go for physical if you’re someone who enjoys having a collection. You can always trade them in later, and there’s no worry about the game being pulled from a digital store. I’ve sold many games after I’m done and made a decent return, which isn’t possible with digital.
Exactly! Plus, there’s just something satisfying about having an actual case on your shelf.
Exactly! Plus, if you can find good deals, you can keep costs down easily with physical copies.
