I’m looking to set up a Minecraft server for my school, but I’m facing some issues with hosting. My laptop isn’t strong enough to both play and host, and I have an old PC that’s over 8 years old. Should I try hosting on that old PC, or would it be better to go with a dedicated hosting service? If the latter, any recommendations?

You might want to give that old PC a shot first! Just check how much RAM it has—if it’s got at least 4GB, you should be fine to run a small server. Just keep in mind that performance could be a bit laggy with more players, depending on your internet speed. But hey, it’s worth experimenting with it before you commit to paying for a service!
Check out Layten Hosting! Their tech support is really attentive and helpful. They even installed everything for me. They have servers in the USA, Canada, and Europe, so you should find one that works for you!
For a hassle-free experience, I’d recommend going with a dedicated host. That way, you won’t have to stress about potential hardware issues, power costs, or internet stability. Plus, you’ll get support if you run into any problems. I personally like PiglinHost and Apex Hosting. Apex can be pricier, but they offer more server locations, which is nice.
