Hey everyone! I’m new here and about to buy my very first gaming laptop. I found an Acer Helios 18 4090 at Best Buy for $2499, and it’s ready for pickup tomorrow. However, I’ve heard that the new 5090 model and some other upgrades will be available in May, but they’ll come with a hefty price tag starting around $2999. Do you think I should go for the 4090 right now, or would it be better to wait a few months and fork out an extra $600-700+ for the 5090? I’ve read that laptop GPUs are quite different from desktop ones, so I could really use your insights!

It really depends on what you’re planning to do with it. If you’re into AI training or using software like Unreal Engine, the 24GB VRAM in the 5090 would be fantastic. But if your main focus is gaming, the 4090 will easily crush any game at the highest settings for years, especially at that price.
I’m just looking for something primarily for gaming too. I don’t currently have a PC, and I want to make sure I get good value for my investment.
