Hey everyone! I’m in the middle of building my first PC and have been collecting parts over the past six months. I snagged a 9800X3D at launch with hopes of getting my hands on an RTX 5080, but unfortunately, I missed out on that. I had GeForce Now on a discount, but that subscription just ended, and now I’m stuck with the free version, which isn’t ideal. I’m mainly concerned about playing COD BO6 for now, while I can hold off on other AAA titles until I get the 5080. I’m considering picking up a budget GPU, specifically the RX 6750XT, which is on sale for $330, to tide me over. Would it be worth it to buy this budget GPU now, and could I sell it later once the RTX 5080 becomes available?

I think come summer, we’ll see a lot more GPUs available. The previous shortages from the 30 series era had a lot to do with mining and COVID, which don’t seem to be affecting the 50 series as much. Just hang tight, and you’ll probably find what you need at a better price soon enough!
If COD is your main focus, you might want to consider skipping the 5080 altogether and grab a 7900 XTX instead. AMD cards really shine with COD. But I get it, if you’re planning on keeping your GPU for at least four years, the multi-frame generation features in the new cards will definitely give you more longevity, especially with ray tracing becoming standard.
I was leaning towards the 7900XTX myself before the 50 series announcement, believing the 5080 would be over $1400. That’s kind of changed my expectations moving forward.
You might want to go for an RTX 4080 Super instead. It’s pretty much the same performance and is available more widely right now. But honestly, if you’re contemplating getting a GPU just for a few months, it might not be worth it. Better to wait it out for the 5080, I think.
Totally agree! If it were at MSRP, it would be a different story, but the price difference makes waiting more appealing.
But what if the next batch has higher tariffs? They might not make as many, which could raise prices again.
