I’m trying to figure out the best way to expand my storage for my Xbox Series X. I can either buy an SSD that connects directly to the console (which has less storage but higher performance) or an HDD that connects externally. The catch is, the SSD costs way more for less space, whereas I could get a 4TB HDD for less than a 1TB SSD. Can anyone explain the differences? I’ve heard SSDs offer better performance, but is that just for download and load times, or does it impact gameplay as well? What would you recommend: SSD or HDD?

I’d say go for the SSD. I grabbed a 2TB one on sale, and it’s made a huge difference. No more worrying about constantly moving games to free up space. Just having the games ready to play is super convenient. Unless you’re okay with the hassle of switching games on an HDD, I’d recommend against it.
An SSD is definitely the way to go. You can download and play your games directly without the hassle of transferring between drives. I have the Seagate 1 TB Expansion card, and I currently have 17 games on it with still some space left. This is just so handy, especially during game sessions.
What’s your favorite game on that setup?
You’ll actually need the expansion cards to play current-gen games directly from the storage. If you go with an HDD, you can store games on it, but you won’t be able to play Series X|S games directly from there. You’ll find yourself moving games around a lot, which can get annoying.
So, I can’t just download Series X games on an external HDD then?
Nice! How many games can you fit on that, generally?
