I’m looking to upgrade from my old 1080TI and considering a prebuilt PC from Starforge. The 5080 is available for $3500 and will ship in mid-May, but I’ve seen mixed reviews saying it doesn’t perform well compared to recent models. On the other hand, the 5090, which is priced at $5500, isn’t even in stock yet, and I’m guessing it will release around the same time as the 5080 ships. While either option represents an upgrade from my current setup, I’m torn between ordering the 5080 now and possibly adding a second NVME later, or waiting for the 5090. Any thoughts on which route to take?

If you’re not coming from a 4080 or a 30 series, the 5080 is actually a solid choice, especially if you can snag it at MSRP. My advice? If your current rig needs an upgrade now, go for the 5080. But if you can wait and find a prebuilt with the 5090 soon, that’d be a better option if you’re willing to spend extra. The 4090 is also a beast if you can find one, just be wary of their overheating issues!
Honestly, if you need to upgrade, just go for it! The 5080 will be a step up regardless of the reviews. Sometimes you just gotta make a move!
Consider checking for other prebuilt options, maybe at places like Microcenter. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend Starforge due to some negative experiences I’ve heard.
That’s interesting! I’ve seen some pretty decent reviews from Gamers Nexus and LTT about them, so it might depend on specific builds.
Yeah, the 4090s have had bad reports about overheating, which is a big gamble. Waiting sounds smart.
