I’ve tried playing Final Fantasy XIII a few times and I just can’t seem to get into it. The usual complaints don’t really apply to me, as I don’t mind the long corridors. What really threw me off was how different the game felt when it finally opened up, and I found the battles dragged on way too long. The moment I faced that giant dragon at the top of the tower after climbing it for ages and then had it wipe out my party in just two hits was the last straw for me, and I rage-quit. I do want to complete all the mainline Final Fantasy games, though, so I’m curious what reasons you can give me to dive back into XIII?

Honestly, I totally get your frustration with the Gran Pulse segment. It really throws off the pacing and makes the combat feel super grindy compared to the earlier chapters. But if you really dig into the game’s mechanics, which are way deeper than they seem, you’ll probably find it a lot more manageable. Plus, once you get past where you quit, the pacing picks back up and the narrative gets really cinematic again, like it was in the first parts of the game.
I felt the same way during my first playthrough. I put it down for months but came back to tackle the endgame content, which I ended up loving! I went for the 100% trophies and that really changed my perspective. Every playthrough, I discover more about the depth of the battle system. The plot has a cool twist on the classic FF stories too!
Honestly, I’d say no. I didn’t find anything I liked about XIV, personally.
Yes! I didn’t think I’d like XIII either, but after playing through it with a fresh mindset post-FF16, I gave it another chance. I realized it’s much better than I initially thought. If you can adjust your expectations about its structure, you might actually enjoy it!
Haha just my luck to ragequit before it gets back to being good again!
