I’ve loved Final Fantasy VII since I was a kid, watching my brother play it, and having to save my game at the bottom of his save file. I’ve heard mixed things about the remake, particularly because I’m a fan of the turn-based combat. I’m worried that the shift to action-based fighting might ruin the experience for me. I’m curious if anyone else who loved the original has played the remake, and what they thought of it? Did you end up enjoying it despite the changes?

There’s actually a classic mode where you’re not just thrown into the action until your ATB meter fills up. That might help with the transition if you’re a fan of turn-based systems!
I was so worried about the writing before the launch, especially after seeing the trailers. But honestly, the voice acting and story turned out to be top-notch! They really made me connect with the characters again. As for combat, it’s a mix of action and strategy, kinda hard to explain, but once you get the hang of it, it’s super satisfying.
If you’re okay with them really expanding the story—Midgar got padded out like tenfold—this might still work for you. Just be aware that some of the original themes have been altered, so if you’re expecting a true remake, it might feel a bit off. But if you keep an open mind, it’s pretty enjoyable! Just don’t compare it too much to the OG FF7.
Totally agree! The combat system is one of the best I’ve seen, and it keeps the old-school feel while adding a new twist.
