I’m thinking about creating a one-handed sword and shield battle mage build that combines destruction magic with swordplay. Given that agility now enhances one-handed weapons, is it wise to choose agility as a major attribute alongside strength, endurance, intelligence, block, and willpower? I also plan to wear heavy armor to boost my tankiness. I really love the concept of blending sword fighting with magic. What do you think?

Agility mainly affects shortswords and daggers, while strength is your go-to for longswords and greatswords. If you’re set on using shortswords, then agility could be the better route for you. Just keep in mind that many battle mage guides suggest strength for a stronger melee focus, especially with two-handed weapons. But for your one-handed style, agility sounds right!
So if I’m focusing on shortswords, agility should be my pick, right? I keep hearing about strength in those battle mage guides, though. Is that just for two-handed builds?
