I’m trying to figure out whether to go for Windows or SteamOS for my gaming setup. I have an Amazon Prime account which gives me access to games on GOG and Epic Games, but I only own a couple of games on Steam. I’ve heard great things about the Steam Deck, especially its ease of repair and Valve’s fantastic support. However, since most of my games aren’t on Steam, I’m concerned about compatibility. How well does GOG run on SteamOS? What about Epic Games? Is it worth holding out for upcoming handhelds like the new Legion Go or is the Steam Deck the way to go?

It’s wild to think of PC gaming without Steam. I get GOG, but having Epic and no Steam titles feels a bit different!
I have a Steam Deck and I ended up dual-booting to use Windows for games like COD and GTA V. SteamOS is great, but keep in mind some multiplayer games have issues there due to anti-cheat systems. If you’re mainly into single-player games, you might be fine sticking with SteamOS!
You can use Heroic Launcher to connect your Prime, Amazon, and Epic accounts directly on SteamOS. There’s really no need to go the Windows route. You can set up Proton and install your games directly, which makes things a lot smoother!
So you’re saying I should just go for the Steam Deck OLED? I keep thinking about the Legion Go but can’t decide!
Games from GOG and Epic can definitely be played on SteamOS using third-party programs that help you add them in. As long as none of your games are locked to Windows because of anti-cheat restrictions, you should be fine!
I’m more into single-player experiences, so if this works, should I still get the Steam Deck OLED or hold out for the Legion?
Just dual boot Bazzite and Windows if you’re really torn. It gives you the best of both worlds!
I already have my PC and PS5 for multiplayer, so I just want something for handheld single-player!
