Hey everyone, I’m looking to upgrade my GPU and I’m torn between the Zotac RTX 5070 SOLID OC (12GB, about $930) and the Sapphire Radeon RX 9070 XT PULSE (16GB, around $1000). Currently, I have an Asus RTX 3070 8GB TUF OC, which I bought for around $770.
I game on a 3440×1440 UW 144Hz monitor (though it’s capped at 120Hz). To be honest, my gaming library isn’t huge, and the 3070 can handle most of my current games just fine.
However, I did feel some performance strain during the free weekend for *ARK: Survival Ascended* and the *Monster Hunter Wilds* beta tests. I noticed my FPS dropped to around 36 without DLSS in Wilds, which I can tolerate, but it was quite unstable in busier areas. I’m also worried about future releases like The Witcher 4 and Black Myth: Wukong pushing my system.
I enjoy ray tracing but I’m not a fan of frame generation or AI upscaling – I prefer native resolution for the best visuals. If a game can’t maintain a minimum of 30 FPS with good visual fidelity, I usually skip it.
Since I don’t notice much difference in framerate past 40 FPS, except for video editing at high refresh rates, I’m handing down the 3070 to my brother since I can’t trade it for a discount.

Agreed, I say go with the RX 9070 XT. It performs better in traditional rasterization tasks, and it’s generally a stronger card compared to the 5070. If you’re aiming to future-proof your setup, it’s definitely the way to go.
I’d definitely recommend going for the RX 9070 XT. It has more VRAM, which is crucial for 1440p gaming. With the higher resolution and upcoming titles, you want that extra memory. Plus, if you check out Newegg, they often have combo deals that can save you some cash if you pick up a motherboard alongside the card! I got mine that way and it really lowered the overall cost.
For 1440p resolution, the 9070 XT is the better choice. The RTX 5070 just doesn’t cut it in terms of VRAM. You’re going to want that extra headroom for future games. The 5070 may perform better in some raytracing scenarios, like *Wukong*, but overall, the 9070 XT offers better value and performance for most situations.
Honestly, I think the RX 9070 XT offers better overall value than the RTX 5070, especially given your situation. It should handle your gaming needs much better while also giving you more VRAM for future-proofing.
I would lean towards the 9070 XT at those prices. It generally outperforms the 5070 in most games, especially when you account for rasterization. Just be mindful of *Wukong*, as the 5070 did shine there with raytracing, but that’s really just one title in the grand scheme of things.
True! One game shouldn’t dictate your entire choice, especially with the 9070 being solid across the board.
Exactly! I read the 5070’s great for *Wukong*, but with all the upcoming titles, the 9070 is better for long-term use.
