I’m in the process of building my first gaming rig and I’m stuck deciding between purchasing a brand new RTX 4060 for £248.99 or a used RX 6700 XT for £265.00. My goal is to game at 1080p with high settings. While I’m nervous about buying used parts, the retailer has a solid return policy and offers a warranty on their GPUs. I’m particularly worried about issues like coil whine but I’m also drawn to the additional VRAM that the RX 6700 XT provides. Any advice on what I should do?

Coil whine typically only becomes an issue if you’re really close to the PSU. The extra VRAM from the RX 6700 XT is definitely an advantage, especially for future-proofing, but at 1080p it might not matter as much. Just keep in mind what games you plan to play and their VRAM requirements.
If I were in your shoes, I’d lean towards the new RTX 4060 since you’re just starting out. It’s generally safer with new gear, and you won’t have to worry about potential issues with a used GPU. That said, you might want to consider waiting for the 5060 Ti 16GB, which is priced at around £150 more. It’s a solid option if you can stretch your budget a bit!
Thanks for the suggestion! I appreciate it, but I’ve really got to stick to my budget for this build.
Thanks for clarifying! Do you think that difference will actually affect my gameplay at 1080p?
