I’m trying to decide whether to upgrade my GPU to the RX 7900 XT or hold out for the upcoming RX 9070. I recently got myself a new 180Hz 3440x1440p monitor and want a GPU that can match its performance. The RX 7900 XT looks tempting, but I’m concerned about whether it might be better to wait for the RX 9070. I’ve read that sometimes GPU prices can actually go up after a new launch, and there’s a chance the RX 9070 might get scalped. What do you all think? Any advice on what I should do?

In general, it’s risky to buy high-end cards right before the launch of a new generation. Especially if FSR4 is likely to be exclusive to the new cards, you’ll just end up wishing you waited.
If you’ve got a Microcenter nearby, it might be worth it to wait for the RX 9070. If you don’t have access, then waiting may be a gamble, so just weigh your options.
Honestly, I was in a similar spot before the 7000 series came out. I decided to go with a 6950XT and it’s been fine for me. You might end up in a lose-lose if you wait. As long as you’re hitting that high refresh rate, it shouldn’t matter too much which card you go for.
I think it’s tough to recommend the RX 7900 XT without confirming that FSR4 support is coming. Spending around $700 just to be stuck with FSR 3.1 sounds like a bad deal. If FSR4 gets announced and AMD messes up the pricing again, then you might miss out if you don’t buy the 7900 XT now. It’s a bit of a gamble either way, to be honest.
