Should I buy the FF1-6 Pixel Remasters or stick to playing on an emulator?

-

I’m really torn between getting the Pixel Remasters of FF1-6 versus just using an emulator. I love the fast-forward feature that emulators offer, which is a big part of why I’m hesitant. What do you all think? Is it worth buying the remasters?

For the nostalgia factor, I always prefer the OG versions if possible. But if you’re comfortable with emulators, that’s totally fine too!

The remasters are a solid choice! They include a fast-forward feature during battles, and you can ramp up the exp and gil gain to 4x. Plus, you can toggle random encounters on or off, which is a big win for pacing!

Each remaster brings improved translations and bug fixes, especially for the NES titles. However, be aware that some fans feel the remastered soundtracks might not entirely live up to the SNES magic of the originals. Still, you can’t deny they clean up the graphics nicely!

Honestly, having a physical copy is pretty sweet! I snapped up a PS4 version while they were still reasonably priced—who knows when the prices will jump again!

While emulators are free and let you pick from various versions (like the awesome PSP ones), the remasters do have undeniable charm. Just keep in mind that their UI can feel a bit bland, and the widescreen isn’t fully utilized since the originals weren’t designed for it. It really depends on what you’re looking for!

True, but the remasters fix a lot of bugs and improve translation which really enhances the overall experience. If you care about that, they might be worth it!

Definitely worth it! I’m currently playing through them and I’m halfway through FF5. It’s such a joy reliving these classic titles, and I can’t wait to dive into FF6 after! They really captured the essence of the originals.
