Seeking Pokemon-style Games on Steam That Support Controllers

-

I’ve been playing on my Steam Deck, so I’m on the hunt for games similar to Pokemon that work nicely with a controller. So far, I’ve found Coromon, Monster Sanctuary, and Moonstone Islands. Any other suggestions? I’d appreciate it if they support controllers well by default.

If you’re scoping for a genre, search Steam for ‘creature collector’ games. There are gems like “Botworld Odyssey,” “Siralim Ultimate,” and “Disc Creatures.” These titles mix collecting and battling with their own unique spins, offering a rich array of options beyond just Pokemon-style gameplay.

“Temtem” is a great online Pokemon-like experience if you’re into multiplayer. However, the single-player is pretty robust if you prefer going solo. I’d also suggest checking out “Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince” for something with a traditional RPG twist.

I second Temtem if you don’t mind skipping the multiplayer aspect. It’s legit fun even solo!

Dive into “Monster Hunter Stories 2,” where instead of watching from the sidelines, you get to ride and use your monsters in battles. It’s different from typical Pokemon games but offers a fun twist with its storytelling and gameplay style. Also, for something mind-bending, try out any of the “Shin Megami Tensei” games, but fair warning—they’re more intense and complex.

Take a look at “Ooblets.” It’s charming, blending creature collecting with farming and dance battles. While it’s not combat-heavy like traditional Pokemon games, it still delivers a whimsical and enjoyable take on the creature genre.

You should definitely check out “Palworld.” It has a similar vibe to Pokemon, and there’s even been some cheeky comparisons made by fans. It’s kind of wild and quirky in its own way, which makes it a fun alternative.

Yeah, Palworld is kinda legally distinct if you catch my drift. But still a blast to play!

If you’re looking for something close to the vibe of Pokemon, try out “Cassette Beasts” or “Nexomon Extinction.” Cassette Beasts offers some unique elements with its creature transformations and nostalgic feel. Nexomon Extinction really channels the classic Pokemon experience, so it’s a solid pick. Also, don’t miss out on “Dokimon Quest”—it has some cool mechanics that mix things up a bit.

I might have to revisit Cassette Beasts. Last time, I got a bit spoiled and wasn’t too into the friendship system.
