Recommendations for Open World RPGs with Simple Combat

-

Hey everyone! I’m getting back into gaming after taking a break since I was tired of my usual favorites. I’m specifically on the hunt for an open world RPG that has simple combat mechanics. My all-time favorite franchise is Fallout—I love the storytelling, humor, and that feeling of being able to explore wherever I want. I also enjoyed Starfield and Red Dead Redemption 2. I’ve tried games like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim, but I found the combat a bit overwhelming. I’m really looking for something straightforward, where the combat is as easy as clicking and moving. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You might want to check out **Immortals Fenyx Rising**! It’s an open world game with a pretty laid-back and straightforward combat system. It’s also packed with puzzles and has a fun, humorous narrative. Another option is **Visions of Mana**, which offers a nice colorful experience and has simple action battle mechanics. If you want something even more chill, consider **Atelier Yumia**—it’s more about exploration and easy crafting, though the combat is more turn-based and relaxed. Hyrule fans should definitely consider Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom if they haven’t already!

Have you thought about **Cyberpunk 2077**? It has a vibe similar to Fallout, but you can definitely focus on gunplay if you don’t want to get into all the hacking stuff. The combat might seem daunting at first, but you can play it pretty simplistically if you want. Plus, there’s so much to explore in Night City! It’s a great way to engage with the world without getting bogged down by excessive mechanics.

GunSlinger224 -

I totally agree! I played it as a straight-up shooter too. The story and world are immersive enough that you can have a blast without diving deep into the cyberware options.

Check out **Two Worlds**. It can be an underrated gem; while it has a rocky start, the world is expansive and filled with exploration opportunities. The RPG systems are intriguing, and it can surprise you with how much fun it is once you get into it!

If you’re open to indies, try **Dread Delusion**! It’s set on a unique peninsula of flying islands and has minimalistic mechanics but a big focus on story and exploration. You can really immerse yourself in the world without worrying too much about complex gameplay mechanics, plus the retro vibe is pretty cool!

For a Fallout-like experience, try **The Outer Worlds** or **Avowed**. Both are developed by the same creators as New Vegas, so they have a familiar feel. I dropped them because I found the combat to be too simple, which might be perfect for you. Also, if you’re thinking of giving Witcher 3 another shot, you could simplify your build by focusing on that red skill tree. You’ll end up finding the combat less complex, allowing for a smoother playing experience.

RDRFanatic -

And definitely look into **Days Gone** if you liked Red Dead! It has that same vibe of exploration and storytelling, but with zombies! Plus, they just released a remaster, so it’s a good time to jump in!

I’d recommend **Dragon Age: Inquisition**. It has really accessible combat mechanics and a wealth of good characters and RPG dynamics. You might enjoy the narrative depth and the world too. Another classic option would be **Oblivion**, especially since it just got a remaster. It’s still one of Bethesda’s crowning jewels and perfect for anyone who wants simpler mechanics while exploring a vast world.

OldSchoolRPGFan -

Oh, and if you’re interested in something a bit different, give **Kingdom Come: Deliverance** a shot. I heard great things about it, and it might hit that sweet spot for what you’re looking for. Just keep in mind it leans more on realism than fantasy RPG elements, but it spices things up in a unique way!
