Hey everyone! I’ve recently been diving into JRPGs, but I find myself a bit overwhelmed by series that have a ton of entries spanning multiple platforms. I tend to enjoy series that have a moderate number of mainline games, around 3-5, which keeps things manageable and enjoyable for me. With the Steam Summer Sale coming up, I’m on the lookout for some new series to explore, mostly on Steam.
I gravitate towards turn-based combat, but I’m open to other styles except for tactical RPGs. While I’m okay with various story themes, it’d be great if the games align with what I’ve enjoyed before, like the Persona series and Mario RPGs. Ideally, I want to find something where all the main games are available on Steam, and bonus points if every entry can be found there.
Here are some series I’ve loved: Persona, Neptunia, Mario RPGs, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Kingdom Hearts, and indie titles like DELTARUNE and UNDERTALE. Can anyone suggest some series that would fit these criteria? Thanks in advance!

You might also find the Ys series enjoyable! It’s a longstanding series, has fun combat, and is all available on Steam. Good balance between story and gameplay without being overwhelming.
The Yakuza series has some turn-based entries like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which might fit your style. Just be aware it has quite a few games, but they’re generally fun experiences!
Have you thought about the Atelier games? I recommend starting with Atelier Ryza. It’s not as hefty in terms of entries and has a light-hearted story, plus the combat is pretty fun!
If you’re looking for something with fewer entries, you might want to check out the Fuga Melodies of Steel trilogy. It’s a turn-based JRPG featuring a group of animal children with a really unique story. Plus, they’ve got a demo for the first game if you want to try it out before committing!
Sounds interesting! I’ll have to give that demo a shot. Thanks for the rec!
You should definitely check out the Legend of Heroes series, also known as Trails. It’s got an overarching storyline but is separated into different arcs, so you can tackle it one at a time and still have a satisfying conclusion. Just keep in mind there are a lot of entries, around 13, but you can easily enjoy it arc by arc! The combat system might remind you of Neptunia, but I can’t confirm that since I haven’t played Neptunia myself.
True, but each arc is pretty self-contained, so you can just experience one without feeling pressured to play them all. It’s manageable!
Yeah, but at least Yakuza 0 is a great place to start if you’re thinking about diving into that series!
