Hey everyone! I’m on the hunt for games that are similar to XCOM and Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate. I’ve recently been reminded how much I love tactical turn-based combat, especially with some light base building and roster management. While I do enjoy Chaos Gate, I’m definitely more into XCOM. I also played Baldur’s Gate 3 recently, and the squad-based combat it features reignited my interest in games like these. So, what are some good recommendations? I’m open to tweaks on the formula too!

A bit surprised no one’s mentioned Mechanicus. It’s a solid Warhammer game with some good turn-based mechanics, but just keep in mind there’s no base building involved.
If you haven’t checked out Battletech yet, you’re missing out! It’s got a great tactical vibe and really scratches that strategic itch. Plus, the mechs are super cool!
+1 to that! Battletech was an awesome surprise for me; the depth and strategy are fantastic!
If you’re looking for something unique, have a go at OpenXcom with the 40k mod. It’s a total conversion that’s praised by fans; just be prepared for some good gameplay and tough challenges. And definitely check out Xenonauts for a reboot feel of the original XCOM!
If you want more Warhammer flavor, Rogue Trader is fantastic! It blends Baldur’s Gate-like narrative with strategy. Also, don’t forget about Aliens: Dark Descent if you love XCOM-style gameplay; it’s a must-try!
For some classic vibes, check out Fallout Tactics! You control a squad while unraveling a mystery in the wasteland. You could also look into the Wasteland series—both 1 and 2 were remastered, and Wasteland 3 is pretty solid. Also, Jagged Alliance 2 is a classic if you’re into squad-based tactics!
True, but it still has some great strategy elements! Definitely worth a look.
