I’m on the hunt for an action game suitable for my 13-year-old brother. We’ve enjoyed Little Nightmares 1 and 2 together, so I’m looking for something that blends action with just enough thrill but isn’t overly graphic or mature. He’s pretty mature and has watched GTA Online challenges on YouTube, but I want to avoid him diving into those types of games just yet. We tried Jedi Fallen Order, but found it to be quite complex with its controls, which made it feel more like a fighting game than an adventure. I’m considering options like Assassin’s Creed Unity or Horizon Zero Dawn, but I’m unsure if they might be too demanding in terms of controls. Ideally, I’m looking for a shooter-type game with an open world, but not too overwhelming—like, he doesn’t need to go on ridiculous quests for crafting items. I believe open worlds add more gameplay value, so it shouldn’t feel like a one-and-done story game. Online play is okay as long as it doesn’t require endless grinding, because he needs a balance and some outdoor time with friends too. Thanks for your help!

Consider checking out Risk of Rain 2! It’s a cooperative game that has limited open-world exploration, is straightforward in its controls, and features some action without too much grit. Perfect for quick gaming sessions.
I’d also recommend the Fable games! They’re a bit older but provide a fun mix of open-world exploration and choice-making with some violence and humor that’s not too extreme. It’s got replay value, which is great!
Definitely look into the Halo series! They’re action-packed and have some great gameplay without being overly complex. Perfect for a tenager who enjoys some action without too much hassle.
Bully from Rockstar could also fit the bill—it offers action and a fun storyline in a limited open-world format. Plus, it’s a good mix of age-appropriate content without diving into anything too heavy.
Have you tried Borderlands? It’s a fantastic mix of action and humor, and it often goes on sale. It’s one of the rare open-world games I actually finished because it gives you nice chunks of open world to explore without feeling overwhelming.
