Hey everyone! I’m currently grinding through some missions in my game, and I’ve got two left to complete. One mission involves earning base XP with cruisers, which I’m making good progress on. After that, I can choose between grinding base XP for battleships or focusing on shooting down planes. The battleship grind seems straightforward, and I think I could hammer it out in about 15-20 battles. However, that mission’s gonna disappear soon, which makes me consider whether I should switch gears to the plane shooting mission instead. The problem is, I’m really bad at carrier gameplay, and I’m not sure how many planes I could realistically shoot down in co-op battles, especially since I don’t want to bother my random teammates. So, what do you think? How many planes can I expect to take down in a co-op match as a newbie CV player, and which grind would be quicker for me at this stage? Time is tight with work and family, and I just want to finish up without burning out!

For plane missions, I’ve been using Bearn in co-op battles; it helps a lot. If you can queue with a CV, you’ll get more chances to intercept enemy planes. Just make sure you’ve got the right CV to maximize those opportunities!
The plane grind can be pretty swift! I’ve knocked out 75% of my plane kills in just a couple of co-op matches, but you need the right circumstances. Overall, tier 8 cruisers are a solid bet to get those plane kills quickly. Just stay aggressive and close to the enemy CV during battles, and you’ll see some results!
Just be careful! Even with good positioning, RNG can really mess with your plans. Focus on steady gameplay instead of trying for every kill.
Right? But if you’re consistent, you’ll see the results eventually. Don’t let RNG burn you out—just keep chipping away!
I’d suggest going with a destroyer that has Defensive Fire (DFAA). Queuing late at night can really help since you might get a player CV on your team. Just make sure they don’t drop fighters on you, and focus on being the biggest threat to the enemy CV. If you time your DFAA right, you could rack up 30-40 plane kills in one go! I did this with a mix of ships during a night session, and it worked out great!
I was thinking of trying the CV route too, but honestly, I’m so bad at it… Can I really avoid looking like a fool while trying?
When grinding planes, you really have to get lucky with the matchmaking. I managed to get a ton of kills playing tier 8 cruisers—just position yourself well, and if you encounter a CV while playing, it’s almost game over for them! If co-op doesn’t work out, Operations can be a good way to rack up some plane kills too.
Honestly, the best route might be to use an AA cruiser. If you’ve got one with decent anti-aircraft capabilities, you can shoot down not just CV planes but also spotters and depth charge crafts. In co-op, you’ll often encounter carrier battles, and if you have a good setup, you should see some solid returns on those kills pretty quickly!
Yeah, the matchmaking can be tricky, but at certain tiers, you’ll definitely catch those hybrid CVs or even regular carriers. The key is to make sure you’re ready for those encounters since you’ll get more AA kills that way.
Totally agree! I always seem to be in a co-op match with plenty of CVs. Keep an eye on what ships the enemy brings; if there are more CVs, you’re in for a good time!
You might also try the alternate US Navy CV line. They have interceptors and can perform similarly to Bearn, without needing to use a premium ship.
