Hey everyone! I switched to a new internet provider at the start of the month and everything was fine at first. But now, when I try to connect my PS5 to the internet, it gives me this error saying it doesn’t support IPv6-only networks and that I need a network supporting IPv4. The weird part is, it was working before and if I tether the internet from my phone (same provider and network), the PS5 connects just fine. I contacted my ISP and they said their service primarily uses IPv6 but isn’t IPv6-only, and I can pay extra to get a public IPv4 address if needed. I also ran an IPv6 test online and it said there’s no IPv6 at all on my connection, so I’m really confused about what’s going on. I’ve tried forgetting and reconnecting the network on the PS5 but no luck. I don’t want to pay extra for IPv4 if it’s not necessary. Any idea what’s causing this or how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

Yeah, it sounds like your ISP is mainly running an IPv6 network but still expects users who can’t handle IPv6-only to pay extra for an IPv4 address. Even though you tested for IPv6 and didn’t find any, their network may still be transitioning behind the scenes or using some form of IPv6 tunneling that your PS5 doesn’t like. The official fix from them is usually to pay for the IPv4 address rental, unfortunately. If you want to avoid that, you could try connecting via LAN cable if that’s an option, sometimes wired connections behave differently and might get an IPv4 address more easily.
It’s a confusing situation because some ISPs provide dual-stack networks where both IPv4 and IPv6 run side by side, but others push pure IPv6 and require an IPv4 address rental for legacy devices. Your PS5 error is classic for a device that doesn’t handle IPv6-only well, even if your ISP says you have IPv4 too. Since your phone tether works, it’s possible your phone’s hotspot uses IPv4 or a mix, which helps the PS5 connect fine. Ultimately, the most straightforward solution is either paying for the IPv4 or trying a different connection method like LAN or a router that can do IPv4-to-IPv6 translation (NAT64 or similar).
Just to add, sometimes the PS5 error message about IPv6-only can also appear due to misconfigurations or temporary network glitches. Power cycling your router/modem and your PS5 might help reset connections and fix temporary bugs. Also, manually setting a static IP configuration or DNS address on your PS5 might work around it if the automatic setup is failing. But if it’s truly an IPv6-only network with no IPv4 fallback, then unfortunately the PS5 won’t connect unless you get that IPv4 address from the ISP or use a workaround router.

Thanks, I’ll try the LAN connection and see if that helps before paying extra.
