Hey everyone! I recently picked up Elden Ring since it was on sale and included the DLC. I’ve never tried any souls games before, but I’ve heard that Elden Ring is a good entry point because of its open-world nature, similar to Breath of the Wild. I played for a couple of hours last night, and while I appreciate the game’s scale, I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed by the menus and options. I’m unsure whether to engage with enemies I encounter, as I have no idea how strong they are—should I just avoid them, or risk getting demolished because I’m under-leveled?
I’m almost 38 and have been gaming my whole life, but with kids, my gaming time has shrunk significantly. I want to dive into this game, but I worry that it demands a lot of time and energy. I found a YouTube walkthrough by FightinCowboy, which was helpful, but I’m still hesitant about following it too closely since it’s such an open game. I loved exploring in BOTW without a guide, so I’m hoping to feel more comfortable and confident in Elden Ring. Any tips to help ease me into it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for listening! 😊

I can relate! I dropped around 50 hours into it and also felt lost with the complicated systems. It’s a far cry from the simplicity of older games. If you find magic builds tricky, maybe try starting with a strength build instead—it seems more accessible for newcomers. Also, remember that you can respec your skills later on if you want to switch things up without starting over. Just focus on finding a weapon that feels good to use!
Hey, I get where you’re coming from! Elden Ring can definitely feel intimidating at first, but it’s mostly about trial and error. You might face some enemies that are too tough for you right now, and that’s completely normal! Just keep a mental note of where they are and come back later. The map does point you in the right direction with those yellow lines at some sites of grace, but don’t feel like you have to stick to them. There are loads of hidden spots and dungeons to discover. Also, don’t forget to level up your vigor; that can help a ton!
Totally agree! Just take your time exploring and don’t hesitate to run away if things get too heated. It’s all part of the learning curve!
Good tip! I didn’t know you could respec. That could help a lot for figuring out what works best for you!
