I’m a huge fan of Final Fantasy VIII and used to play it back-to-back in my teens. Recently, I had a conversation with my partner about wanting to watch a Let’s Play or Twitch VOD of the game together. I’m looking for a playthrough that treats the game fairly, acknowledging both its strengths and weaknesses, similar to an older screenshot LP from the SomethingAwful forums. I want someone knowledgeable about the game who can dive into all the details and provide context as we go along, since we enjoy theorycrafting and exploring character motivations. Additionally, it’s really important for the playthrough to use either original hardware or a modded version with the original PSX soundtrack since the music is a significant aspect of the game for me. Unfortunately, I can’t play myself due to our time zone difference and my terrible memory for all the missable content. Any suggestions?

You might want to check out two podcasts that dive into FF8 without spoiling the story. They analyze the game thoroughly and provide great insight: 1) Retrograde Amnesia Podcast – they cover everything in detail. 2) Resonant Arc Podcast – focusing on storytelling techniques. If you’re open to a different format, these are worth a listen! Also, consider recording your own playthrough to make it more personal for your partner.
I suggest playing the game independently while watching FFUnion’s timeline videos. They do a fantastic job with lore and worldbuilding, which would spark some great discussions for you both after. It’s a fun way to enjoy the game without the pressures of playing at the same time!
Definitely agree with you on that! FFUnion’s videos are really insightful.
