I’ve got a PS5 issue that’s become a real headache for my brothers and me. We’re all sharing a console, but I’m not super familiar with it since I’ve mainly played Nintendo. Last night, I wanted to try it out, so I pressed the power button on the PS5, assuming it would start it up. However, it was actually in rest mode, so the console didn’t ‘turn on,’ and the lights stayed off. I tried pressing the button several times in different ways, hoping it would work, but it didn’t.
After messing with it, our Samsung TV stopped recognizing the HDMI connection, and now the PS5 app icon doesn’t show on the TV anymore. We’ve plugged and unplugged the HDMI cable multiple times, tried different cables, and even restarted the TV, but nothing helped. I’ve watched tutorial videos and reached out to PlayStation support. They suggested it might be a hardware problem needing repairs, which sounds expensive, especially since the console is over a year old and probably out of warranty. Now, I’ve got fingers pointing at me for ‘breaking’ it and need advice before it costs us a bunch.

It sounds like the HDMI port on your PS5 might be damaged, which can be pretty costly to fix. The repair could be expensive since you might have to take it to a professional, especially if you’re in California where prices can be higher. Repairs for HDMI ports might reach up to $500.
Based on your description, it could also be a complete crash of the console that happens sometimes in rest mode. If unplugging and replugging doesn’t work and there are no lights at all, professional repair might indeed be necessary. It’s frustrating, but it might be your best bet.
Have you noticed if the lights on the PS5 are still orange when you attempt to turn it on? It might have crashed while in rest mode and is now stuck. Try unplugging the power cable completely from the PS5, wait around 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and try once again.
