Hey everyone! I’m really frustrated with Windows and decided to switch to Linux, but I’ve run into a big problem with my laptop’s Nvidia Optimus setup. Specifically, I can’t get the Nvidia driver to automatically switch to the dedicated GPU when I’m playing Minecraft, which is my main game. I’ve tried countless Linux distros, including Arch Linux, EndeavourOS, and Ubuntu, but nothing seems to work. I’ve read a bit about why Minecraft struggles with the Optimus setup since it runs on Java, which isn’t typically demanding enough for the system to switch GPUs. Has anyone here managed to get their Optimus setup to work well for gaming? I’d love to hear your experiences and any tips or setups that have worked for you! Thanks!

I’ve had good luck with my Optimus laptop for playing Minecraft. You might want to try using Prism Launcher. It’s super simple to use since it has an option in settings to “use dedicated GPU”. Just click that, and it should switch to the Nvidia card without any hassle. Seriously, it’s been a game changer for me!
I’ve done the same on my Bazzite! If the settings don’t kick in with the Flatpak version of Prism Launcher, try using Flatseal to tweak the access permissions for Advanced Graphics.
