I’m building a new PC for video editing and some gaming, and I’d like your feedback on my component choices. I’m going with an AMD Ryzen 9 9800X3D, since I do a lot of 4K video editing and my previous setup with an i5-9600K was a bit slow for that. Is the 9800X3D a solid choice for my needs?
For graphics, I’ve got a GIGABYTE Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 with 32GB of GDDR7 memory, which was part of a bundle I got from Newegg. I’m selling the bundled motherboard on eBay.
Speaking of motherboards, I chose the ASRock X870E Taichi. I’ve seen mixed reviews—some people love it while others have had issues. I’m sensitive to audio quality, so if it’s a gamble, I might want to switch brands for stability.
For RAM, I picked up F.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB Series with 64GB (2x32GB) running at 6000MT/s. Sticking with this since I hear it’s stable, though I considered faster options that I don’t want to spend time configuring. My storage setup includes a Crucial T705 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD as the primary drive, and a Samsung 990 PRO 4TB SSD as secondary storage.
I’ve got a CORSAIR RM1000x SHIFT PSU and an ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 for cooling. My case options are between the HYTE Y70 and Fractal Design North XL. Any thoughts?

If you’re doing a lot of 4K video editing, the 9950X3D might be worth the extra investment. It offers a noticeable performance boost for editing tasks without sacrificing your gaming experience. You also mentioned selling the bundled motherboard; maybe keep it if it’s decent, as it could support your GPU well.
The ASRock X870 motherboards are a bit hit or miss. I know someone who had issues with the RGB controller on theirs. You might want to consider the ROG Crosshair or an Aorus Xtreme instead for a more reliable experience. Usually, all higher-end motherboards have great audio, so that’s a safer bet if the ASRock seems shaky.
I would recommend considering the Antec Flux Pro case for its thermal performance and easy setup. It’s spacious, and if you prefer less RGB, it’s a solid choice. As for your storage drives, definitely stick with Gen5 for both the T705 and any other SSD; it makes a big difference in speed for data transfers, especially in demanding tasks.
So you’re saying just go with ASUS for peace of mind? Seems safer for sure!
